Maryam was a niece of his wife. This is a dua recited by Prophet Zakariya A.S when he turned to Allah SWT and asked that he may have a child. And it is for that reason that Allah introduces the story by saying: "(This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya."
